  April 4, 2019    /      9:24 pm    /      Webmaster

Southeastern Institute has introduced a new certificate program in hospitality management at their Charlotte campus. The program recently received approval form the U.S. Department of Education and is approved to begin enrolling students immediately.

The new program will train students for employment in the hospitality industry. Students will be prepared with competencies in the varied areas of sales, financial management, food and beverage safety, facilities maintenance and housekeeping, and general accounting tailored to the hotel and resort industry. Course work will focus on the business of hospitality operations and help students understand the functions, objectives, and operational skills needed to succeed in the hospitality industry.

The new hospitality management certificate is a 31-credit hour program with seven hours dedicated to an externship experience allowing student to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate real-world work experiences and apply theory learned in the classroom.

“The hospitality program prepares Charlotte based students for the business and customer relations facets associated with the hospitality industry,” Southeastern Institute Executive Director Robert Keiser said. “Ultimately, by combining the business, service, and communication skills relevant to the hospitality industry Southeastern’s students will be equipped to meet the employment demand of the booming hospitality industry in Charlotte, N.C.”

Jobs in the leisure and hospitality industry have dominated U.S. job growth during the early parts of 2019 with the industry accounting for 74,000 new jobs in January. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the leisure and hospitality subsector is expected to add more than 1.3 million jobs to the U.S. economy between 2016 and 2016. The Charlotte region had approximately 28.3 million annual visitors with an economic impact of about $7 billion in 2018. The hospitality and tourism sector is the fourth largest employer with around 136,600 jobs.
